Ok, so there you have it.. PG Astray [Red Frame] Final pick on studio photos!
I want to thank everyone for giving me input on picking the final 8!
so here you go.. all extra large images!
I came across Lightning Ace's Gundams blog on posing MG Astray Red Frame..
I was so keen to give it a try using PG. but sadly.. none of the poses can be done with PG.
MG Astray does win in terms of articulations.
*Special thanks for Gundam Guy for the awesome featuring post.
but in terms of details the PG gundam astray red frame wins in my opinion hehe
ReplyDeleteand btw, thanks a lot for linking my blog gundam beginner! :D
Yea.. the details are amazing in PG Astray. but the articulation in MG actually makes me very keen to get my hands on an MG. but I just reluctant to get the money out. hah!
DeleteYou're very welcomed lightning! your poses are state of art.
Hi, great job. How did you paint the manipulator digits? Can they be disassembled and put back together again without breaking something?
ReplyDeleteAh, the fingers you mean? I did not paint them. I just sand the nubs away.
Deleteahh man i wanna start mine so bad. i have to say i always enjoy your photos. you do a great job of making the best out of what you got.
ReplyDeleteThanks D-Smith, glad to know someone like my work. =D
Deleteumm, I don't see a single compliant on this blog, so I think everyone loves your work.
DeleteYeah, that's good to know!. Gunpla Community always welcoming.
DeleteWhat stand are you using to display it?
ReplyDeleteThat is the PG 00's stand. Its a perfect fit
DeleteJust curious...did you paint the gold part on both katanas?
ReplyDeletewell, They are carefully trimmed from runner. and covered with hand painted gold.
DeleteHi There,
ReplyDeleteI owned a Astray Red Frame MG, and I loved the articulation of it.
I am considering getting a PG, but I saw that you mentioned the PG is unable to do all the pose MG does?
Hi there,
DeleteWell, the PG Astray reused PG Strike's inner frame, and by doing so, PG Astray's armours are being designed to cope with it. The most obvious parts are the legs because of the larger armours and feet. Articulations slightly reduced to compensate.
I.e. Astray's knees bend about 160degree while Strike can do 170degree; Astray's legs can do only 90 degree before the armour skirts get in the way, while Strike can do more.
So compare to a perfectly designed MG Astray, legs articulation do make slight difference.
If you can get pass the leg's articulation and see the fantastic details of the PG, I highly commend the PG.
Thanks for the Info, maybe I should try PG Strike instead.
DeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI was thinking to get either a PG strike or a PG Astray Red Frame. Any comments which is a better option.
Hey there,
DeleteBoth of them are the best PG out there, IMO. It's just because the inner frame has the most human -like articulations. PG Strike obviously has better articulations from precious comment, so I'll compare other aspects.
PG Strike has an Aile pack designed for it. It's a plus if you are looking to buy the Aile pack. And with the PG Action base stand, it's the only PG that has a stand by default. (You can get try to get the limited PG 00 raiser's stand, but it is expensive. Or a bootleg version, if you don't mind a lower quality, still good)
PG astray, although it is designed to cope with Strike's inner frame, bandai has done a fantastic job! Despite the discounted articulations, the Astray has a LOT of muscle-like moving parts. Anything you move, will trigger others. I think it is a huge plus better than Strike.
In the end, it really comes down to personal preference. Both are great. But if you ask me to decide which is better, I'd say PG Strike for its original design of the inner frame.
Thanks for the sharing..
DeleteYou're most welcomed, oh I forgot, PG strike freedom has a stand too
DeleteIn your pictures, you show the PG Red Frame with both the Gerbera Straight, and Tiger Pierce, but actually the kit only comes with the Gerbera Straight...unless you were lucky enough to buy the special limited time only kit that came with the bonus parts. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are both Gerbera Straight, borrowed from a friend.
Delete=]
can you tell me the type of paint and liquid you use for this PG?
ReplyDeleteI used Tamiya Spray cans for this PG.
Deleteonly Red / Black / Golds / Silver.
Others are stock colours.
Does the PG Astray comes with its own stand?
ReplyDeleteSadly no stand / action base included in this PG.
Delete=(
aw :\ where'd you get your stand??
DeleteIt came with the initial release version of PG 00 Raiser.
Deletegot it :) I just ordered a bootleg version online that I saw reviews for and people said it works for red astray :) Thanks!
DeleteWhat tamiya sprays did you use for this PG? specifically how did you achieve that red?
ReplyDeletethanks and amazing build btw
Hey there, I used TS-39 Tamiya Mica Red
Delete(some Reds are left unpainted to give 2 kinds of Red)
Which areas were painted with TS-39? Did you put any matte top coat on it?
DeleteBasically the darker red is TS-39. and yes, a matte topcoat on top of it.
DeleteWhat you see here is the final product.
Before topcoat TS-39 Mica Red,
